Sheila Autonomista Festival 2010

Sheila Autonomista is an independent, non-profit, queer women's art and music festival held in Sydney, Australia. First established in 2002, Sheilafest was set up as an easily accessible culturally and politically alternative festival for women identifiers.

Sheila is the initiative of a group of women active in Sydney's queer feminist anarchic community. Members of the organising collective come from a diverse range of established groups including Scooter and Slit mag, with experience and interest in music, performance, theatre, art, queer theory, social politics and direct action.

The Sheila collective is a web of already existing networks that broadens the base and range of skills available to women in Sydney and makes a space for lots of interbreeding of culture, politics, art and action. The events of the festival provide a showcase, a platform and an entry point for new connections, skills and the celebration of all things girly. It's been inspired by the best of the fests - ladyfest, queeruption, electrofringe, etc.

Sheilafest welcomes people from a broad gender spectrum. Gurlesque is open to women / trans only.

Workshops

If you're interested in running a workshop during the days Friday-Monday, please email us at: sheila.autonomista(at)gmail(dot)com.

A brief description of your workshop, an estimate of the number of participants, an outline of materials you would need, date /time preferences and any other relevant details would be much appreciated.

We'll try to accommodate as many diverse activities as possible. Please note, the focus is on women / women identifiers / trans participants, with a preference given to autonomous workshops.

The closing date for programming is Monday 22nd February.

Bands

Any bands or musical artists interested in performing at one of the musical nights should send an email to sheila.autonomista(at)gmail(dot)com.

Please include a brief description of your sound, a link to some music or a small file containing a sample, and your performance history. This is to ensure a broad range of bands are given performance opportunities.

Scooter asks that bands with more than half the members identifying as male do not apply (ie we are seeking bands with at least 50% female / trans identifying).

The closing date for programming is Monday 22nd February.
